It may sound like a strange question as Blogs are of course websites, but there is a difference between both.
A blog is a Website on which an individual or group of users record opinions, information, etc. on a regular basis a dynamic website if you like. Bloggers add new material to or regularly update their site keeping the content fresh and relevant. Because of this blogging does make it much easier to optimise your site for the search engines.
When you publish a blog post you automatically notify the search engines (sometimes indirectly) that there is new content on your site and this gives the search engines an invite to come and visit your site to index it’s new content as they want to obviously stay relevant.
Blogs tend to be indexed much more often than traditional static websites (More on these later) and statistically a blog will on average show up 10 times more often in organic searches than static websites do.
There will always be things that interest us whether its sports, movies, IT, fashion, etc… blogs and websites that are constantly updated and fresh provide us with the most up-to-date content.
A website in many peoples eyes is more of a static environment, formal/professional, usually one way communication. Almost everyone has a website, it is almost a requirement in business today.
A good way to summarise a website is to think about it as being a virtual store that sells products and/or services. It is the perfect forum to self-promote and advertise. Promotion and buying and selling are exactly what people expect when they visit a website. When they are at the point of making a purchase of some kind, they go to a website that will satisfy their needs.
Which ever option you go for, content is king… Most designers will make a site look pretty but the common myth of “build it and they will come.” often fails.
We tend to go for a hybrid approach as we believe that it gives you the best of both worlds and since both are necessary for the success of your online exposure, this allows you a web presence that contains a traditional website and a blog.
Although we have to actively create fresh content it really is something we are passionate about and as a business owner, you will have to determine what will work for you, which approach will earn you more business and what will be the most effective for your target audience.
